Claiming Your Computer Science Account
New students must create a computer account in order to use any of the CS computing
resources.This includes the labs, UNIX, printing, email, and web resources.
- To claim your CS account, you may either use a computer within the TAMU firewall
(such as a CS lab computer) or connected remotely using VPN.
- If you are using a CS lab computer, press CTRL + ALT + Delete to login.
Type newuser into the user name field and leave the password field blank.
NOTE: The newuser account is only valid the first week of each new semester between
7am and midnight, and will be deactivated after two weeks. If you need assistance after this
date, come to the Helpdesk in room 210.

- If you are using a CS lab computer, a browser window will automatically open to the login page.
Otherwise, open a web browser and go to http://csnet.cs.tamu.edu/claim.
If a security alert appears, select Yes to continue.
- Click on the link to login with your TAMU NetID
- Login with your TAMU NetID

- Select your preferred CS username and password and type them into the appropriate fields,
then click the submit button. This will claim your CS account, and set your password for UNIX,
your email, and the CS websites. Once this is complete, you may log off Windows.
[ Note: it may take up to 5 minutes for the account to be created. ]
- We are unable to initially set your Windows password;
The first time you log into Windows, you must use the following for your password:
Cs followed by your UIN. That is a capital 'C' followed by a lowercase 's'
