Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 - Configuring IMAP

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2003.
     
  2. At the Outlook 2003 startup screen, click Next.

  3. At the Account Configuration screen, click Yes to connect to a Mircrosoft Exchange Server.

  4. At the Server Type screen, click on IMAP and then click Next.

  5. At the Internet E-mail Settings (IMAP) screen, fill out the name, e-mail, password, and mail server information as seen below.
    • Your Name: Your name
    • E-mail Address: username@cs.tamu.edu (Your Computer Science e-mail address)
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.cs.tamu.edu
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.cs.tamu.edu (you must be on campus or connected to VPN to use smtp.cs.tamu.edu)
      mail.cs.tamu.edu (for on campus)
    • User Name: username (Your Computer Science username)
    • Password: Your Computer Science password
    • Remember Password: Depending on who uses the computer and your preferences, either check this box or leave it blank

  6. Click the More Settings... button.
     
  7. At the Internet E-mail Settings screen, select the Advanced tab.

    Check both boxes labeled This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). There should be one box for Incoming server (IMAP) and one box for Outgoing server (SMTP).

  8. Click OK to return to the Internet E-mail Settings (IMAP) screen.
     
  9. Congrats, setup is complete. Click Finish to close the wizard.

  10. Outlook will now connect to the email server. An Internet Security Warning box will pop up. Click Yes to accept the certificate issued by the Computer Science mail server.
