Restoring Lost Files

Your entire profile is backed up twice hourly, six times nightly, and twice weekly for a maximum of two weeks and stored in your "~snapshot" directory. This directory can be accessed from your H: drive by following the instructions below. If you have lost files or folders on your H-drive within the last 2 weeks, you may able to retrieve the files or folders.

NOTE: Your "~snapshot" directory does not affect your disk quota.

What to do if you lose files:

  1. Make the ~snapshot directory visible.
    • Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer
    • In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.

  2. Find and restore your lost files.
    • In Windows Explorer, open "H:\~snapshot"
    • You will see several folders containing different stages of backup, "hourly.0" being most recent and "weekly.1" being least recent. Each folder will contain an "old" version of your profile. Locate the most recent folder that still contains the files you wish to restore.
