Printing - Set up a Network Printer

Texas A&M Computer Science Department has several departmental printers, out of which some can be used by students and others can be used by staff and faculty. This document will inform the user on how to add any of the printers that you have access to. If you feel you do not have access to the printer that you need to have access to, please contact the helpdesk or submit a task.

Steps in adding a printer

  1. Click on your start button and select Run...

  3. In the text box type in \\printers\ and press enter

  5. Following window will pop-up (if the window is already in the detail mode skip to the next step). In this window right click on the white space and select Detail in the View menu.

  7. In the detailed view you will be able to see which printers are student printers and which are departmental printers. Double click on the printer you would like to use for your printing purposes.

  9. Once you double click on the printer you would like to add to your account, the following message will pop-up, click yes

  11. If you have followed the steps properly AND you have the correct access permissions, the printer queue window will pop-up.
