Wireless Network - Connecting To

It is no longer necessary to fill out a Wireless Connection Form with the
Computer Science Department to access the wireless network.

Begin by setting the SSID of your laptop to tamulink. No WEP is needed, however
you will get a 10.32.38.xx address which is non-routable. You will only be able to
reach three places:

  1. http://tamulink.tamu.edu
  2. http://net.tamu.edu/network/vpn.html
  3. http://cis.tamu.edu/customer-sales/account-services/claim.php

You must first activate your VPN account using CLAIM, then download and install
the VPN client software. Instructions how to do this are located on the
Tamulink homepage at http://tamulink.tamu.edu.

After you have CLAIMed your VPN account, you need to use the client to
establish a secure connection. Once VPN is active, you will then be able to
connect to sites and sources outside of the three mentioned above.

For existing wireless users, SSID for the wireless clients has changed from CPSC-HRBB
to tamulink. The CPSC-HRBB method of connection will be discontinued by
February 15, 2004.

If you need assistance with CLAIM or the VPN client, contact Help Desk Central via e-mail
at helpdesk@tamu.edu or by calling (979) 845-8300.
