Requirements:
Enrolled in at least one CSE Class
- To use the resources provided by the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, you must be enrolled in at least one CSE class.
Access to CSE Lab Computer or VPN Connection
- To Claim an Account, you must get through the TAMU Firewall to CSNet. There are two ways to do this:
- You may use an Open Access Lab Computer (Room 214 and 219)
- You may connect to the network through VPN
Claiming Your Account on Lab Computers
Step 1: Log in
- Press "CTRL+ALT+DEL" at Login Screen.
- Type "newuser" in the "User Name:" field, and leave the "Password" field blank.
- Note: The newuser account is only valid the first week of each new semester, between 7am and midnight, and it will be deactivated after two weeks. If you need to claim your account after this time period, please visit the Helpdesk in Room 210.
- Once you have logged in, the browser should automatically open and take you to the login page.
- Note: If it does not automatically direct you to the login page, please open a web browser and go to http://csnet.cs.tamu.edu/claim.
- Please type in your UIN to begin.

Step 2: CSNet
- Once you have entered your UIN, click on the Link, and Log in with your NetID and Password
- Select your preffered CSE Username and Password (Make sure to follow the Password Guidelines listed), then click 'Submit'
- Note: This will Claim your CSE account, set your password for Unix, email, and other CSE resources.
- Once this is complete, you may log off of Windows.
Step 3: Logging on to Windows
- Press "CTRL+ALT+DEL" at Login Screen.
- Type your "CSE Username" that you just created in the "User Name:" field, and type the letters "Cs" followed by your "UIN" in the password field.
- Note: The CSE password you created will NOT work for the Windows Computers in the Lab.
- We are unable to initially set your Windows password to your CSE password when creating your account, but you will be prompted to reset the password you typed in with a new one whenever you log in.
- Note: The Password you reset will ONLY work for logging on to Windows. The password you created earlier is for using CSNet, CSE Email, and other resources. If you would like only One password for these, make your new password the same as your CSE password.
- Note: If you are not prompted to change your password, type "CTRL+ALT+DEL" and select "Change Password" from the menu.
Claiming your Account using VPN
Step 1: Navigate to CSNet
- Once you are connected through VPN, open a Web Browser.
- Navigate to http://csnet.cs.tamu.edu/claim
- Enter your UIN and Click 'Submit'
- Go to Step 2: CSNet under Claiming Your Account on Lab Computers and follow these instructions.
